Proper sample collection is essential for accurate results. Please read all instructions carefully before collecting your sample. If instructions are not followed correctly, results may be delayed or invalid.

General Guidelines (All Tests)

  • Wash and dry your hands before handling any collection materials.
  • Do not eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum for at least 30 minutes before collecting oral samples.
  • Carefully label all collection materials as instructed.
  • Follow the step-by-step instructions included inside your kit.
  • Mail your sample promptly after collection (if lab testing is required).

DNA Test Kits (Cheek Swab Collection)

Before You Begin:

  • Do not eat, drink, smoke, or brush teeth for at least 30 minutes prior to collection.
  • Ensure the inside of the mouth is clean and free of food particles.

Collection Steps:

  1. Remove the swab from its packaging without touching the cotton tip.
  2. Rub the swab firmly against the inside of the cheek for 30–60 seconds.
  3. Allow the swab to air dry (do not blow on it).
  4. Place the swab into the labeled envelope or container provided.
  5. Repeat with additional swabs if required.

After Collection:

  • Make sure each participant’s sample is clearly labeled.
  • Place all materials in the return packaging and send to the lab as instructed.

STD Test Kits

Collection methods vary depending on the type of test included in your kit.

Urine Collection:

  • Collect the first portion of urine (first catch) as directed.
  • Fill the collection container to the indicated line.
  • Secure the lid tightly to prevent leaks.

Swab Collection:

  • Follow the detailed instructions included in your kit.
  • Avoid contaminating the swab tip.
  • Secure the sample in the provided transport tube.

Finger-Prick Blood Collection (If Applicable):

  • Clean your fingertip with the alcohol wipe provided.
  • Use the lancet to gently prick the fingertip.
  • Allow blood to fill the collection card or tube as instructed.
  • Apply pressure with gauze after collection.

After Collection:

  • Seal all materials in the biohazard bag provided.
  • Complete any required forms.
  • Mail your sample to the lab promptly.

Drug Test Cups (Urine Collection)

Before You Begin:

  • Use the test at room temperature.
  • Do not open the sealed cup until ready to use.

Collection Steps:

  1. Provide a urine sample directly into the test cup.
  2. Ensure the sample reaches the indicated fill line.
  3. Secure the lid tightly.
  4. Place the cup on a flat surface.

Reading Results:

  • Results typically appear within 5 minutes.
  • Do not interpret results after the time window stated in your kit instructions.
  • Two lines usually indicate a negative result.
  • One line in the control area may indicate a preliminary positive result.

For employment or legal testing, confirmatory laboratory testing may be required.

Important Notes

  • Do not mix up samples between participants.
  • Incomplete labeling may delay results.
  • Improper collection can result in invalid or rejected samples.
